Husband arrested over murder of beloved Nonna

Frank Dimasi, 91 has been charged over the murder of his wife, Maria, 85, who was found dead inside the couple's home over the weekend.

Maria was found with multiple stab wounds inside the couple's home in Findon, Adelaide, at around 11:20pm on Saturday.

Frank was arrested at the scene and charged over the murder of his wife of over 50 years on Monday.

He is currently under police guard at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, having suffered from self-inflicted and non-life threatening wounds, according to SA police. He is also reported to suffer from a "neurological disability".

Maria was a beloved member of the Italian community in Adelaide.

She was regarded as the "neighbourhood matriarch” and was well-known because of her love for cooking, including making meals for the vulnerable.

She was heavily involved with the family's taxpayer-funded meal service, Nonna’s Cucina, that even Health Minister Mark Butler recognised her hard work and described her as "extremely generous".

“Maria lit up the kitchen at Nonna’s Cucina,” he said. “She was always extremely generous and made sure no one ever left her company hungry.

“Maria gave so much to her community and will be greatly missed by her loved ones and everyone who had the pleasure to meet her.”

South Australia Premier Peter Malinauskas also paid tribute to the beloved great-grandmother and described the murder as "tragic".

“On a personal level, Maria Dimasi was a very significant contributor to our state, particularly in the western suburbs’ Italian community,” said the premier.

“Nonna’s Cucina, which will be very well-known to a lot of South Australians, did amazing work delivering meals to people that are vulnerable, particularly the elderly.

"This is a good person who has lost their life in tragic circumstances.”

The premier is currently facing increasing pressure to authorise a Royal Commission into domestic violence in the state, after five women have allegedly been killed at the hands of a partner since November 16, according to The Advertiser.

The publication also reported that this is "the worst DV toll in Australia's history".

In their first public statement issued through the police late Monday, the couple's family paid tribute to Maria, who they described as “loving mother to her four children, her 10 grandchildren and a great grandmother to 13”.

“Maria had a caring nature and shared love and happiness to those around her,” they said in the statement obtained by The Advertiser.

“Maria was the centre of our family, bringing us together to care for and support each other. Family was everything to Maria, and she was everything to her family.

“Maria has warmed the hearts of many and we would like to extend our gratitude for the support the community has provided as we come to terms with our loss.”

They added: “The support truly shows that Maria was loved by many and has made a positive impact to the community.

“We will always remember Maria for her warmth, caring nature, compassion and her beautiful smile.”

They also thanked Nonna’s Cucina for allowing her to spread joy with the community and said that they will come together as a family in the coming days to celebrate Maria's life.

“We thank Nonna’s Cucina for supporting Maria to share her joy with the community.

“The past few days have been difficult for our family as we process the grief of losing our beautiful mother and Nonna.”

Images: Facebook/ Nine News.

King Charles shares birthday photo of baby Princess Anne

To commemorate Princess Anne's birthday, the official social media accounts of the monarchy posted two images – one captured at Buckingham Palace on May 6 at the King's Coronation, ceremony, with King Charles and his sister both adorned in regal attire, and the other of the siblings at a very young age.

In the Coronation picture, King Charles dons the resplendent Imperial State Crown, his purple satin coronation tunic, and the dignified Robe of Estate, offering a cheerful smile to his sister. Princess Anne, meanwhile, dressed in the uniform of the Colonel of the Blues and Royals, wears a striking red plumed hat and a military ensemble.

Personally appointed by her brother, King Charles, Princess Anne led a procession of 6,000 armed services personnel through London's streets in her capacity as "Gold-Stick-in Waiting" at the historic event - the first woman to fulfill this role of being responsible for the monarch's safety. This tradition traces its origins back to the 15th century, with the roles of Gold Stick and Silver Stick established to safeguard the monarch from harm.

However, it was the addition of the throwback image from the family archive that really turned heads: A snapshot from 1951, capturing a two-year-old Charles gently reaching over to clasp the hand of his nearly one-year-old sister Anne. This delightful moment crystallises their sibling bond.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by The Royal Family (@theroyalfamily)

This birthday holds a bittersweet sentiment for Princess Anne, as it marks her first celebration since the passing of her mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Often lauded as the hardest-working member of the royal family, Princess Anne has seamlessly resumed her commitments following the loss. "We cannot judge": Nat Barr's frank question on war crimes for Army veteran

Sunrise host Natalie Barr surprised viewers when she confronted a war veteran after he referred senior Australian Defence Force leaders to the International Criminal Court over alleged war crimes committed in Afghanistan.

Glenn Kolomeitz, a military lawyer and army veteran, signed the referral alongside Senator Jacqui Lambie.

The referral to The Hague had the criminal court examine the country’s high commanders “through the lens of command responsibility”.

Kolomeitz and Lambie claimed senior commanders have avoided investigation over alleged war crimes in Afghanistan.

“I've got to ask you. This is a question I get asked every time we discuss this general issue,” she said.

“We trained these people to kill, and we trained them to operate in a war setting. None of us as civilians have any idea what that's like and we cannot judge them for when they go over there to war. What do you say to that?”

Kolomeitz insisted that defence force personnel, regardless of rank, must be investigated if they’ve committed or covered up a criminal act.

“I worked with these guys on a couple of rotations, and quite frankly, they are amazing advocates for our country, but if they've done the wrong thing, they must be properly investigated, and they must be vigorously prosecuted. That's the reality,” he said.

“You can't ignore the commanders. You vigorously investigate and prosecute those who have done the wrong thing, including those with command responsibility.”

The TV presenter then asked if an investigation was necessary for the chief of the defence force, Angus Campbell.

Kolomeitz replied, “Every joint task force 633 commanders in that job during the period of the enquiry.”

The army veteran drafted the letter that would be sent to the International Criminal Court.

“If Australia does nothing about it, the ICC can potentially assume jurisdiction over the higher command and excise the higher command investigation from the ongoing investigation of junior soldiers,” he said.

The 2020 Brereton report found “credible” evidence that 25 current or former Australian SAS soldiers unlawfully killed 39 Afghan civilians and prisoners between 2005 and 2016.

The report strongly recommended administrative action be taken against ADF personnel where there is credible evidence of misconduct, but not enough for a criminal conviction.

It ruled that senior commanders were not criminally to blame for the alleged crimes.

Senator Lambie noted leadership had not been held to account for their actions.

“The government is no doubt hoping this will all just go away,” she told the Senate.

“They're hoping Australians will forget that when alleged war crimes in Afghanistan were investigated, our senior commanders got a free pass while our diggers were thrown under the bus.

"Well, we don't forget. I won't forget. Lest we forget.

“There is a culture of cover-up at the highest levels of the Australian Defence Force. It is the ultimate boys' club.”

Julia Morris breaks silence on infamous I’m A Celeb feud

As this year’s season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has come to a close with the winner announced, host Julia Morris has opened up about the feud between Domenica Calarco and Kerri-Anne Kennerley that went viral online.

She appeared on the Will & Woody radio show hosted by Will McMahon and recently eliminated jungle-goer Woody Whitelaw, where she confirmed reports that Domenica called Kerri-Anne a “c**t” and said she was shocked things had escalated to that level.

“We have definitely never experienced a fight in front of us like that,” she explained.

“Oftentimes over the years if people are disgruntled they never bring it to trial, they never bring it in a space where there is Chris [Brown] and I. Because oftentimes, that is a live window into Australia and everybody knows that this is their moment to behave or to get their side of the story out, all that sort of stuff.

“The C-bomb absolutely came out, but honestly from where Chris and I were standing I could see both sides of the frustration.”

Morris also revealed why the full extent of the fight and the explicit language used didn’t make it on air.

“Look, it’s really weird with something like that,” she said. “We are a children’s show essentially, maybe not a kid’s show but it is a show that kids are watching with their families.

“We are never, ever, ever - even with bleeping - going to have that language go to air, ever. Why would we? It’s unacceptable, and Dom also accepts that it was unacceptable.”

She added, “In the heat of the moment I don’t think either women were articulating what they thought. So when they both came away they both definitely told a slightly different story, but I honestly think it was their truth, both of them.”

Morris' comments come after Dom opened up about the feud herself, and shortly after Ian "Dicko" Dickinson weighed in on KAK's abrupt exit.

“The thing about being in the jungle is that you have to be selfless,” she shared. “It's not just about you, you have to go in as a team player.

“And I think it just got to a point where I was frustrated that she wouldn't even try and I just was like, ‘Why are you even here bro?’. You can't have your cake and eat it too. You can't enjoy camp life and eat the food that we’re scavenging for and then come to trials and say you're not going to do it.”

Dom added that she knew the Australian public would consistently vote Kerri-Anne into trials for entertainment value, so she felt like it was important to call out her lack of effort.

“It happened the way it happened, and look, I'm not proud of the language that was used, but I still stand by everything and the messaging behind it because that's how I truly felt, and I still feel that way,” she remarked. “I would have just, I guess, articulated myself in a better way, but in the heat of the moment when you're starving and you've eaten soup for a few nights, it happens.”

"It was unbecoming": Domenica Calarco opens up on her feud with Kerri-Anne

Domenica Calarco has opened up on her fiery feud with Kerri-Anne Kennerley in the I'm a Celeb jungle.

The outspoken MAFS contestant was booted from the jungle in a shock elimination on Monday night, and has spoken out her now infamous argument with the TV presenter.

While in the jungle, Domenica and Kerri-Anne clashed over Kerri-Anne's refusal to participate in team challenges, prompting Dom to tell her she had “no respect” and that she’d never met anyone “so selfish”.

Fellow celeb Dicko also revealed after his exit last week that Calarco had also called Kennerley a “c**t” in scenes that didn’t make it to air.

Chatting exclusively with news.com.au, Calarco confirmed that she did drop the C-bomb, admitting that her language during the argument was “unacceptable”.

She also privately asked producers to pass on an apology to Kennerley, who abruptly quit the show after just three days after the clash.

“I haven’t spoken to her personally because I was in the jungle but I had passed on a message to her,” Calarco said.

“I have apologised for my language, it was unbecoming. I wouldn’t use that language again, now that I’m fed."

“But in the heat of the moment, I was struggling mentally. The sleep deprivation, the food deprivation, it gets to you. So for me, it was a culmination of all of that."

“I’m not proud of the language, but I stand by how I felt. And I still feel that [way].”

Despite the explosive fight, Domenica said she was shocked at Kerri-Anne's decision to leave the jungle.

“I kind of thought KAK had a little bit more in her. I didn’t think she’d throw in the towel,” she said, before adding one final blow, “[But] she did have to get back to Port Douglas on April 22 for a golf tournament, so …”

Calarco said Kennerley’s refusal to attempt any of the difficult challenges in order to “get her campmates fed” became the source of her frustrations, and ultimately led to her outburst.

“KAK was constantly getting voted in [to do challenges] because people wanted to see her push herself out of her comfort zone, but before we even headed in, she was adamant she wasn’t going to try,” she said.

“And I was terrified of the food challenges, I have a phobia of vomiting, it was my nightmare fuel situation, but I knew I was going to try because we needed to bring home stars, everyone was starving."

“You’ve got to be selfless, it’s not about you, it’s about feeding everyone. So it was that frustration of knowing we were gonna get nowhere with her.”

Now that Domenica has recovered from her deprivations of the jungle, she said she is open to a reconciliation with Kerri-Anne and a chance to apologise in person.

“[If I saw her] I’d say, ‘I’d love to get a Pinot gris with you, my shout,’” she said.

“Obviously she’s no longer in Africa but if the chance comes up I’d happily have a chat with her.”

Image credits: I'm a Celebrity... Dicko opens up on Kerri-Anne's dramatic exit from I'm A Celeb

I'm A Celeb evictee Dicko has opened up on the dramatic fight that led to Kerri-Anne Kennerley's abrupt exit from the show.

Kerri-Anne quit the show after just three days, after she was embroiled in an argument with Dicko, MAFS star Domenica Calarco and radio host Woody Whitelaw, as the four contestants were taking part in one of the show's infamous food challenges.

The challenges are notorious for making contestants eat disgusting foods, and as a result, Kerri-Anne refused to participate.

Her continued refusal to take part in challenges – in which contestants win stars, translating to meals for their hungry campmates – was too much for Domenica, who declared she had “never met anyone so selfish,” and insisted KAK had “literally no decency or respect.”

Speaking candidly on the Kyle and Jackie O Show on Thursday morning, Dicko explained that things got even nastier when the cameras weren't rolling.

He said that Dom had called Kerri-Anne the c-word, who was "all class" in her response to the insult.

Speaking to news.com.au just hours after he was voted out of camp, Dicko said that while he couldn’t condone “how easily Dom went from nought to Gremlin in five seconds,” he shared her frustrations with how Kennerley played the game.

“I did keep slapping my forehead every time she’d insinuate that she wasn’t going to get involved in any of the challenges in any meaningful way,” he said.

“She wasn’t going to do this or that – well, why are you here? It’s not actually a camping trip. The only way we get fed is with these stars, and if you’re not prepared to have a crack, we’re going to go hungry."

“I honestly think she hadn’t truly grasped that, which is so confusing. She’s a smart woman, you’d presume she’s got management … I don’t understand how they didn’t know what she was stepping into.”

While the fight between the two women was so severe that it lead to Kerri-Anne quitting the show, Dicko admitted he didn't take it seriously in the moment.

“If I’m really honest, myself and Woody were off to one side laughing our tits off. I probably should’ve been a bit more grown up, but watching Australian TV royalty duke it out with a gnarly upstart was just precious – and I had a front-row seat,” he confessed.

“I’d like to be the grown-up in the room and say, ‘This shouldn’t have happened, it’s dragged TV through the mud,’ but I laughed like a drain for two days afterwards I’m afraid. I kind of enjoyed it.”

Image credits: I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here

“I didn’t have a voice”: Natt Barr's frank question for Candice Warner

Candice Warner has spoken candidly of her experience following her 2007 bathroom ‘scandal’ with rugby’s Sonny Bill Williams, revealing the real reason she kept her silence for so long.

It was during an interview on Sunrise with host Natalie Barr, where Candice was promoting her memoir Running Strong, that she faced another round of questioning over the 16-year-old incident. And it was one question in particular, from Natalie, that prompted the floodgates to open.

“Did you think about coming out straight away and talking more about it?” Natalie asked.

“This was 16 years ago,” Candice responded. “16 years ago, we lived in a society where we didn’t have the voice, women didn’t have the voice that we do now. I didn’t have the opportunity.

“Back then, I was forced to apologise for - I was single - for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nowadays that just wouldn’t happen.

“I didn’t have a voice back then, now I do, and our society has changed.

“It still has a long way to go, but I feel like as a woman, I now have the confidence to be able to tell my side of the story and be heard.”

The former ironwoman - who now dedicates her time to her family and her career with Triple M radio and Fox Sports - went on to explain that the reason she hasn’t previously opened up was because of her three daughters with husband David Warner.

“In part it was for my three daughters,” she told Natalie, “who in time will be able to read the book, and I wanted them to get a better understanding of my story without any interference or judgement from outside.”

Candice has offered a similar explanation in the past, after confronting abuse at the cricket in 2022.

“A long time ago, when I was young, I got myself in a compromising position, which I regret,” she said during her appearance on SAS Australia.

“It had a huge impact on my family. Huge. It was just a personal situation. Too many drinks.

“Living with that and having to explain to my kids in the future is going to be very difficult. Especially when you’ve got three girls.

“I remember sitting on the side of the street and not being able to take it anymore.

“Yes, I’d made a mistake. But is that really worth, every single day, the media trying to drag me down? I don’t think so.

“It’s not something I am proud of but it’s something I can never take back.”

Images: Getty

Kerri-Anne Kennerley's shocking assault allegation

Kerri-Anne Kennerley has opened up about a shocking incident of sexual assault involving a former network boss.

The former TV presenter shared the story with her campmates on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me out of Here, as she revealed that the unnamed male had “unzipped” her dress during a staff gathering.

“It was a Christmas party for our show, and as I was standing there, the back of my dress, the zip, was being unzipped,” she said in a piece to camera.

“So as I swung around to basically say stop it and deck said person, I realised it was the station owner. And I did say, ‘Zip it up or I will deck you.’”

The 66-year-old did not specify when the incident occurred, and did not name the person involved.

Earlier in the episode, Kennerley had been sharing her thoughts on the rife misogyny within the media industry, as she told former host of The Project Peter Helliar she thought it was a "boys club".

“Chauvinism, harassment, hideous behaviour,” she said, describing some of the men she’d encountered throughout her career.

“Executives and producers hitting on the younger girls in there. You know, somebody hits on you and you just draw the line in the sand and everybody gets back to work, that was just the way it was.”

Kennerley added that, in her experience in media, female employees had often been left to pick up the slack for male co-workers.

“The women were all researchers, producers and the guys would sort of tick off yes, yes and then go to lunch for four hours,” she said.

“And the show would all get together because most of the women did all of the work. At the end of the day, you just want to make good TV.

“It has always been just about get a job, hang on to it as long as you can, do as well as you can, and when it is over, you get another one. You just keep doing it, keep turning up.”

Kerri-Anne's extensive media career began in 1981 as she became the host of Good Morning Australia, and she stayed on the air until Kerri-Anne's final episode aired in 2011.

She then became a regular co-host on Ten’s Studio 10 for two years, but left the show in 2020.

Image credits: I'm a Celebrity... Kerri-Anne Kennerley heads to the jungle … on one condition

Former TV presenter Kerri-Anne Kennerly is returning to screens across Australia as one of 13 contestants heading into the South African jungle for the 2023 season of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!

However, while the others will be forced to present a natural front to the cameras, Kerri-Anne wriggled her way into maintaining the “glamorous” look viewers have come to expect from her after 40 years in television.

While speaking to Ten’s Nick Bond, Kerri-Anne revealed that the network’s head of entertainment, Stephen Tate, has been trying to get her to participate in the show every year since it began - something that gave Kerri some extra power when she finally did decide to dive in.

She noted that the final offer had been one she “couldn’t refuse”, but that there had been “a few provisos” along with it. The most important of them was that she “get[s] to take makeup”, with Kerri stating that “natural is very overrated.”

“I can’t be bothered doing that much,” she added, “but it won’t be natural because natural takes a long time. Every girl knows that.”

But that’s not the only difference viewers can expect to see between Kerri and her fellow contestants, with the veteran presenter also scheduled to make her entrance a day after the rest.

Not that she’s concerned, instead suggesting to Bond that they should simply “get better management. Not my problem.”

The opinion of viewers doesn’t look set to faze her either. For anyone doubting that she’ll be able to handle the ‘rustic’ side of camp life, from outdoor bathroom facilities to some of the show’s more extreme challenges, Kerri had already dismissed their take, explaining that “I literally have ridden camels, bulls, horses … held snakes, including cobras and red-bellied blacks … been bitten by a ferret, been scratched by a lion cub.”

Coupled with her experience with heights, Kerri-Anne may yet prove hard to beat for the others vying for the crown with her.

12 dropped into camp the day before Kerri-Anne, each eager to face the challenges the jungle has in store for them, and to ultimately come out on top.

Former Australian Idol judge Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickinson was the first to land, with Married At First Sight’s Domenica Calarco following suit, then Yokayi Footy’s Bianca Hunt, AFL Brownlow medallist Adam Cooney, Home & Away’s Debra Lawrance, and Geordie Shore’s Nathan Henry.

Up next came KIIS National Drive Radio Show’s Woody Whitelaw, celebrity chef Anna Polyviou, Olympic lightweight boxer Harry Garside, netball’s Liz Ellis, Below Deck’s Aesha Scott, and comedian Peter Helliar to round them out.

Images: @kerriannekennerly / Instagram

Sam Armytage's frank admission about getting older

Sam Armytage has made a refreshingly honest declaration about the harsh realities of ageing.

In her column for Stellar Magazine, the Farmer Wants a Wife host said she is no longer worrying about the small things that used to bother her.

“It turns out that as you get older, you don’t actually figure anything out,” she wrote in her November column.

“You just don’t have the energy to care any more.”

While she admitted it's not about giving up, she explained why she has felt more freedom since ditching the worries of passing fads and fashions of youth.

“There are few things that have brought me more pleasure recently than hearing that the skinny jeans fad is kaput,” she joked, before noting that she’d now started adding retinol into her skincare routine.

She added that she had reached the point of constantly turning down the volume in the car - or wanting someone else to turn it down in the bar or restaurant.

“And a dose of the COVID Delta virus seems to have somehow affected the shape of my feet; I simply can’t wear high heels all day anymore,” she added.

But rather than letting these things get her down, Armytage, 46, said she has felt the liberation of getting older.

Not having the energy to care about “figuring stuff out” wasn’t keeping her awake at night - it was more likely the uncomfy pillow or crick in the neck that was responsible for that problem.

“I must say I’m finding wide-leg jeans, flat shoes and the salads and greens on my dining table at home - complete with background music at normal levels - all very joyful,” she wrote.

After posting her latest column to Instagram, she received an outpouring of praise from her followers for "keeping it real".

“Sounds like you’re really in tune with everything,” one follower observed.

“You’re happy and content. It’s the little things in life that you notice change when you feel that contentment.”

Waleed Aly goes head-to-head with mayor calling for IS brides’ citizenships to be revoked

Waleed Aly has gone head-to-head with a mayor from western Sydney who slammed the government’s decision to resettle the repatriated brides and their children in the area.

The Project co-host was speaking to disappointed Fairfield Mayor Frank Carbone, who questioned why western Sydney was the “dumping ground” for the women and their children.

Mr Carbone explained that members of the community have gotten in touch with him expressing deep concerns over the decision, particularly those who escaped Syria from the terrorist IS group.

“I don't think he [the prime minister] has taken into account the tens of thousands of refugees that fled their home, had their homes burnt back in Syria, have lost their loved ones, have watched a lot of their families be beheaded and burnt, and have come and resettled in Western Sydney,” Mr Carbone began.

He argued that Syrians who helped the Australian army fight IS terrorists were more “Australian citizens than anyone else” before he was cut off by Waleed.

“Legally they're not, Australian citizens are a different category. We have obligations to Australian citizens that we don't have to refugees,” he pointed out.

Mr Carbone did not accept the excuse, saying the IS brides committed treason under the “Commonwealth criminal code section 80” and should have their citizenships revoked.

“Treason is when you leave your country and you aide and abet, doesn't matter if you're baking a cake or scones and assisting ISIS, you're committing treason,” he said.

“Under that act, you can have your citizenship revoked.”

Waleed then pointed out that the brides would have to be convicted first to have their citizenship revoked and “that hasn’t happened”.

“You're talking a lot about kids here, in fact mostly about kids. Would you leave kids in camps overseas when they are Australian citizens?” he asked.

Mr Carbone did not hesitate when he continued addressing the people’s concerns as to why Western Sydney was the dumping ground.

“Why is it Western Sydney? Why is it Western Sydney when we have tens of thousands of people that fled ISIS?” he said.

“Australia is a big country, they [ISIS families] don't necessarily have to be in Western Sydney.”

His comments come just a day after Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun, and Campbelltown Mayor George Greiss made the same accusation about their area being the dumping ground.

Australia repatriated four women and their 13 children after being stuck in al-Hol and al-Roj camps in the northeastern Syria region since 2019.

It is expected more women and children will follow in the next few weeks.

Images: The Project
